Anti-riot police allegedly fatigued as they decry shortage of protection gears ahead of Azimio anti-government protests.

Ahead of a three-day protest called for by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, the police have gone back to the drawing on how to counter the protesters.

The meeting comes after the protesters seemed to overwhelm the police in the recent demonstrations.

Interior CS Kindiki also admitted the security failure in countering the Azimio nationwide protests.

“I accept on Wednesday we did not do very well as law-enforcement agencies. I promise that this week and going forward, the country is going to deal with the dangerous criminals in our midst,” said Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki at a past function following Wednesday, July, 12 protests.

According to a report by Citizen TV, police top brass had a long meeting to look into what might have led to the police’s failure to control the crowds.

At the AP Training College in Embakasi, GSU commandant Douglas Kanja reportedly conducted the meeting in the absence Kindiki and Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

The two top security officials purposefully skipped the high-level meeting so that their underlings could speak candidly about the problems that contributed to the lackluster performance.

The cops implied that they had lost their motivation as a result of unpaid allowances and had grown weary from the demonstration.

The meeting also demonstrated the dissatisfaction of some of the uniformed men’s bosses.

Most of them accused the service of favoritism.

Lack of proper anti-riot gear also arose with cases of police running out of tear gas and being left at the mercy of protestors being raised.

Meanwhile, the Azimio coalition is set to hold a 3-day anti-government protest from Wednesday to Friday.
