NPSC is established under Article 246 of the Constitution and entrusted to recruit and appoint persons to hold office in the National Police Service (NPS). The Commission plays the human resource role of determining promotions and transfers as well as exercise disciplinary control over members of the service.
The deliberations were constructive, highlighting the shared responsibilities and hence commitment to strengthen collaboration, mutual respect and effective coordination in the management of the service.
To strengthen the recruitment process, the commission adopted the National Police service Commission (Recruitment and Appointment) Regulations, 2025, which will guide the recruitment.
The regulations are developed pursuant to Section 28 of the National Police Service Commission Act to address the gaps identified in 2015 regulations while incorporating emerging issues in policing and human resource management.
The proposed regulations aim at streamlining the recruitment of members of the service to promote transparency and ensure merit-based selection in the recruitment process.

The commission also considered and approved a comprehensive roadmap and instruments to facilitate the immediate commencement of the recruitment exercise.
The roadmap outlines key stages from the vacancy advertisement to the final selection of successful candidates who will thereafter report to designated training colleges.
The commission stated that the vacancies will be advertised soon and all everyone who feels they are qualified for the positions and they meet the stipulated requirements are urged to apply.
The recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the service to effectively discharge its mandate of securing the nation.
The commission also announced the election of Prof. Collette Suda as its Vice-Chairperson. With the Commission now fully constituted, is confident in their capacity to spearhead the far-reaching reforms that will entrench a professional, responsive and people-centric Police Service.
“We remain united and steadfast to fulfilling our constitutional mandate of providing effective Human Resource Management within the National Police Service,” said Amani Yuda Komora, Chairperson, National Police Service Commission.
