Koome says police will use rubber bullets (that cannot cause death to whoever is shot at) during Azimio protests.

Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome told the media on Sunday that police would also use tear gas canisters on protesters.

He said that both the rubber bullets and tear gas canisters had been examined to ensure they couldn’t kill anyone.

“We have our regulatory department. There are teargas and rubber bullets we use which have been lawfully checked and cannot kill,” Koome said.

IG Koome further explained that the police have not asked for support in doing their work.

” Any member of the public who thinks they will come with a rungu to help the police, I am saying no. Those that want to come help police with their rungus and pangas, stay away. I will deal with you just like any other criminal,” he said.

In addition, Koome dared to arrest and arraign anyone who comes with items such as rungus and pangas to the Azimio mass action demos.

Meanwhile, Azimo leader Raila Odinga declared that the protests will be held every week on Mondays and Thursdays.

He condemned the police for disrupting the Azimio mass demonstrations adding that the work of the police is to protect protestors as they hold their peaceful demos and not harass them.
