Senator Edwin Sifuna's family in mourning

The extended family of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is in mourning following the death of their kin.

In a statement on Thursday, November 20, Sifuna announced that his uncle, Roy Bulinga Sifuna, passed away days ago.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party secretary general said they held a requiem mass in memory of his uncle at St. Francis Catholic Church in Kasarani.

“The Sifuna Family is in mourning yet again. We lost Uncle Roy Bulinya Sifuna. We gathered at St. Francis Catholic Church, Kasarani, for mass in his memory.

“Uncle Bulinya was eulogized as a brilliant engineer who was always polite, patient, and kind. Very few of us in the family can be described in those terms,” Sifuna stated.

The Nairobi Senator said his late uncle will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 22, in Kanduyi, Bungoma County.

“We shall lay him to rest this Saturday in Siaka village, Kanduyi, Bungoma County. May his soul rest in peace,” Sifuna added.

On December 4, 2023, Senator Sifuna lost his uncle, Lawrence Sifuna, who represented the Bumula constituency in the earlier editions of parliament in the 1980s.

In a statement, the ODM party mourned Lawrence as one of its life members.

"We commiserate with the family of our SG Edwin Sifuna, friends, and relatives following the loss of the Hon. Lawrence Sifuna.

“He was a Life Member of the ODM party. He is a former MP for Bungoma South Constituency (presently Kanduyi) and also Bumula. May his soul RIP," ODM stated.

Lawrence was first elected to parliament in 1979 to represent the larger Bungoma constituency before it was split. He later represented Bumula and Kanduyi before quitting in 1997.

In his political heyday, Lawrence aligned with the leftist lawmakers who often challenged the late Daniel Moi's government.

Lawrance was laid to rest on December 16, 2023, in Bungoma County.
