Pres Uhuru makes a surprise phone call during the Azimio rally
Pres Uhuru makes a surprise phone call during the Azimio la Umoja campaign rally in Trans Nzoia county.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, July 26, addressed the crowd after Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa, put him on loudspeaker.
Uhuru addressed the Gema community living in Trans Nzoia, urging them to vote for Azimio gubernatorial candidate, George Natembeya.
As the most qualified candidate to succeed governor Patrick Khaemba, who is serving his second and final term, he recommended Natembeya.
Additionally, the president sent CS Wamalwa Ksh 1 million, which he was to use to buy the delegates lunch following the conference.
With Natembeya promising to work for the creation of a public university in the county if elected governor, the race for governor in Trans Nzoia has heated up.
Natembeya pointed out that the county’s educational system had been impacted by certain institutions’ choice to close local constituent colleges.
“The establishment of a public university is one of my key agendas in our manifesto. I want to bring hope to poor students who abandoned their studies after constituents of some universities were closed down,” Natembeya stated.
“My administration will work with the national government to establish a university and ensure poor students get adequate bursaries to complete their university education.”
The gubernatorial hopeful remarked that he will work closely with the national government to acquire land owned by the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) to put up a university in a bid to boost education.
George Natembeya is battling it out for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat with Kiminini Member of Parliament, Chris Wamalwa.
