The Head of State appointed Muthoni to the role after meeting her at State House, Nairobi on Monday, 15.
President Ruto described the environmental activist as an exemplary young Kenyan whose dedication and determination embody the very best of our nation’s spirit.
“In recognition of her courage, fortitude, and laudable leadership, I have appointed her as an Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a signature national initiative dedicated to securing Kenya’s environmental future,” Ruto stated.
Ruto also said that, in appreciation of Muthoni’s successful completion of the 72-hour tree-hugging challenge, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) have offered her and her team a fully sponsored holiday experience.
The President further said the Ministry of Environment will support Muthoni in her dream to visit Brazil.
“In addition, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry will support the realization of her dream to visit Brazil, broadening her exposure to global conservation initiatives and environmental leadership,” Ruto said.

Additionally, President Ruto conferred Muthoni with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal.
“As a mark of national honour for her exemplary service to environmental stewardship, I have conferred upon Truphena Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal,” Ruto added.
Muthoni on Monday, December 8, launched a 72-hour tree-hugging marathon in Nyeri.
She drew attention from Kenyans and global audiences who watched her progress throughout the grueling three-day challenge.
The environmentalist successfully finished the 72-hour tree-hugging challenge on Thursday, December 11.
On Friday, December 12, Guinness World Records said the verification process of Muthoni’s challenge is still ongoing and that no new record has been confirmed yet.
The organization noted that while supporters are eagerly waiting for the outcome, the submitted evidence must first be reviewed.
