President Ruto hints at working with Munya, Ex-CS Linturi
President William Ruto has revealed that he is in talks with former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and his predicessor Mithika Linturi.
Speaking in Meru on Wednesday, April 2, the Head of State assured locals that discussions were already underway with the two leaders and urged patience.
“Last thing, MP John Paul Mwirigi has mentioned that there are two elders in this area, Peter Munya and my friend Frankline Mithika Linturi.
“I want to confirm that I’m already having talks with these two leaders and we are working on a plan. So just relax, everything is in control,” he said.
Both Munya and Linturi served as Cabinet Secretaries for Agriculture. During his tenure, Munya’s initial focus was on revitalizing the dairy industry.
He directed the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) to increase the price of milk from Ksh25 to Ksh33 per litre, following a presidential directive to release Ksh500 million to purchase excess milk from farmers.

In the tea industry, Munya introduced regulations to enhance transparency and accountability within the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).
These reforms led to a 44.6% increase in payments to tea farmers, from Ksh34.71 per kilo of green leaf in 2021 to Ksh50.18 in 2022.
On the other hand, assuming office in 2022, Linturi prioritized modernizing agriculture and enhancing food security.
In January 2024, he unveiled five solar mobile grain dryers in Nakuru County to reduce post-harvest losses and flagged off 2,300 bags of subsidized fertilizer for distribution to farmers.
Before that, in June 2023, Linturi launched the Program to Build Resilience For Food and Nutrition Security (BREFONS) in Baringo County.
However, Linturi’s tenure faced challenges, including an impeachment motion in May 2024 related to the procurement and distribution of government-subsidized fertilizer.
He was ultimately fired in July 2024.
