President William Ruto has sanctioned minor changes within the Cabinet in reassigning Mudavadi, Duale to vacant ministries.
In a communique from State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Saturday, December 28, the president filled up the ICT, Trade and Industry, and Agriculture Ministries, albeit on an interim basis.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who doubles up as the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, will preside over the ICT Ministry, Environment and Forestry CS Aden Duale will take over the Agriculture and Livestock Development docket, while Youth Affairs and Sports CS Salim Mvurya will preside over the Investment and Trade Ministry.
“His Excellency, the President has assigned acting Cabinet Secretaries to the vacant ministerial portfolios. In that regard, it is notified that the Head of State and Government has, pursuant to Article 152(5)(a) of the Constitution, assigned the vacant ministerial portfolios to the following Cabinet Secretaries in an acting capacity,” read the notice in part.
Ruto nominated former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui as the new CS for Investment and Trade, which had been held by Mvurya, who was transferred to the Sports docket.
The president also nominated the first Kiambu governor, William Kabogo, as the CS for ICT and onetime Health CS Mutahi Kagwe as the CS for Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Mvurya took over from former Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who was moved to the Interior Ministry, whose CS post fell vacant following the elevation of Kithure Kindiki to the Office of the Deputy President.
Musalia, Duale and Mvurya will hold their new roles until Kabogo, Kagwe and Kinyanjui are vetted and approved by the National Assembly.
Andrew Karanja, who was the substantive Agriculture CS, was reassigned to the role of Kenya’s ambassador to Brazil, while Margaret Ndung’u Nyambura, the ICT CS, was reassigned to serve as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana.
The trio of new Cabinet entrants will be vetted on January 14 by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments stewarded by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
