Ruto warned over his recent appointments in choosing his close associates for various positions "expect less loyalty"

Ruto warned over his recent appointments in choosing his close associates for various positions “expect less loyalty”.

Ngunjiri Wambugu, a former member of parliament for Nyeri Town on Sunday, January 22, warned President William Ruto over recent appointments.

Jubilee Party member Wambugu asserted that Ruto should not count on the loyalty of his close friends who he has placed in various positions.

Although it was expected, the lawmaker admitted that he was concerned about how Ruto was rewarding loyalists with government positions by appointing them to various parastatals and commissions.

“We have seen the President himself or through cabinet secretaries and public service commission appoint his allies to various high positions.

“In turn, appointments that were made by former president Uhuru Kenyatta are being revoked,” the former MP observed.

The recent appointees will not be loyal to Ruto since they will be afraid of being replaced by another administration according to Wambugu.

“What will happen is that we will see more professionalism, and the appointees will be afraid to show their loyalty to the head of state,” Wambugu opined.

“While many appointments are being made as a way of rewarding loyalty, Ruto should not expect the appointees to reciprocate,” Wambugu warned the President.

In the recent appointments, Ruto sent home state personnel who were nominated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and instead promoted his close friends to high-profile positions.

Francis Muthaura, a close supporter of Uhuru, lost his position as chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority on November 18, 2022, and Anthony Ng’anga took his place.

Ng’anga presided over the United Democratic Alliance’s elections board prior to being appointed (UDA).

On January 20, 2023, Kenya Electricity Transmission Company’s board chairperson David Azangu Ngaira, a close ally of Uhuru, was also fired.

Mr. Ngaira was replaced with Abdi Bare Duale a staunch supporter of UDA.

President Ruto also recently appointed Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kungu Mungai as the Chairperson of the Board of the Keya Cultural Centre Council for a period of 2 years.
