UDA MP Dekow says Kenya Kwanza contemplating bringing a motion to extend Ruto’s presidency

UDA MP Dekow says Kenya Kwanza contemplating bringing a motion to extend Ruto’s presidency.

Dekow Mohamed Barrow, a member of parliament for Garissa Township, sensationally said on Tuesday that Kenya Kwanza MPs would introduce a motion in parliament that would attempt to prolong President William Ruto’s tenure by one year.

While speaking in Garissa town, the UDA MP stated that they have the necessary numbers in the parliament and will start the project soon.

“As MPs from Kenya Kwanza, we can bring a motion in parliament that will seek to extend Ruto’s presidency by one year to 2028. This is to compensate the one year that has been lost through demonstrations orchestrated by the opposition,” he said.

“And you know we have the numbers in the house. As you we are a total of 349 and no MP wants to face an election. We all want to remain there.”

He added:

“Because the opposition has decided to play hardball, we will show them that we can equally do the same. So Wananchi should be prepared to have the election in August 2028 and not in 2027. One year has been lost talking about Raila.”

Dekow further asked President Ruto not to let anyone intimidate him saying that as his MPs, they remain steadfast in defending his administration in outside parliament.

He ridiculed the leader of the Azimio party, Raila Odinga, and his aides, calling them a “bunch of jokers” and singled out the leader of the Roots party, George Wajackoya.

His remarks came only a day after political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on Monday emphasized the fact that President William Ruto will still have three years and six months left in his term by December 2023.

“Dear Ruto: Christmas, you will have only three-and-a-half years left. And you will have achieved nothing. When will you start work? Christmas?” he asked.

Ngunyi went on to state that the rebellion against Ruto was now being fueled by the courts.

“The rebellion virus is now an epidemic powered by the courts. They killed CASs, then suspended the Finance Act 2023. And there is Raila,” he said.
