Raila accuses government of artificially recreating Mungiki while at the same time issuing demands to Gachagua over Mau Mau link.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has floated allegations that there is an attempt to artificially recreate and re-establish the outlawed criminal sect Mungiki.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, June 5, 2023, Raila claimed that the government was trying to use tactics to isolate the youth from Central Kenya.

“It is so unfortunate that in this time and age when Kenya has now celebrated its 60th year of independence, somebody should try to use the same tactics and methods used by the British to try and isolate youth from the Central region. There is an attempt to artificially recreate, and reestablish Mungiki movement,” Raila said.

“Maina Njenga has since been vilified and harassed, they have carried out searches in his residences, planting some kind of evidence to try to vilify him and find an excuse to arrest him and detain him.”

During the presser, Raila also challenged DP Gachagua to prove if he comes from a lineage of Maumau fighters.

Raila Odinga did cast aspersions on whether Gachagua’s family took part in fighting for Kenya’s independence.

Further, the former Prime Minister remarked that there was a possibility that Gachagua’s family was part of the collaborators during colonial rule.

“You have been bragging that you are a son of Mau Mau together with Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungw’ah.

“I want to challenge you today Gachagua to declare your relationship with Gachagua Wang’ombe who was assassinated in 1953,” Raila challenged the DP.

The opposition leader explained that Wang’ombe was assassinated by Mau Mau fighters for collaborating with the colonialists.

In addition, Azimio leaders drawn from Mount Kenya decried the Finance Bill claiming it was meant to hurt Mt Kenya’s businesses.

Azimio Principal Martha Karua noted that the proposed taxation targeted Mt Kenya businesses and vowed to oppose it.

She also challenged Gachagua to refrain from classifying Mt Kenya youth as drunkards arguing that it painted the region in a bad light.
