Raila accuses Ruto and Gachagua of starting class war as he takes on them over Monday chaos

Raila Odinga has accused President William Ruto of starting a class war with the invasion of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's land on Monday

Raila Odinga has accused President William Ruto of starting a class war with the invasion of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s land on Monday.

The Azimio leader claimed Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua were behind the invasion in Ruiru to settle political scores.

“During campaigns, we warned that they were propagating a class war. A class war is being actualized and this is how collapse begins,” he said.

He said Ruto was pitting the poor against the rich to achieve his selfish goals.

“Trees were cut and animals were taken away under the supervision of the State. The last time we witnessed such an invasion of farms and companies in this part of the world was when Robert Mugabe claimed to be compensating freedom fighters in Zimbabwe. It ended in a total collapse of Zimbabwe’s economy. It will not be any different here,” Raila said on Tuesday.

“We see little hope for Kenya’s large-scale farming. We are tearing the heart out of our commercial agriculture. We see little hope for new investments in our economy or the expansion of existing ones. We are looking at the beginning of the end of the economy of this country.”

Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, Raila further maintained that the weekly protests will continue as planned and accused the State of ensuring Monday demonstrations degenerated into chaos and death.

He noted that Azimio leaders and supporters have been striving to abide by the law but the State has done everything to ensure the demonstrations degenerated into chaos.

He also criticized President William Ruto’s move to seek bilateral deals and investments in Germany for the country at this time.

“How does Ruto go to Germany and talk about attracting German foreign investments to Kenya knowing very well that back at home, he has put in place a machinery for vicious attack on local investments?”

He also spoke on the chaos witnessed in Kibera last night and alleged that it had been premeditated.

Raila reckons that the torching of a PCEA Church in Kibra was a plot to incite to violence between the Luo and Kikuyu communities living in Kibra. However, he did not share proof to back the allegations.

Karua also called out Gachagua and National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa for issuing threats of attacks.

“Police never showed up the whole day but miraculously showed up today 24 hours later,” she said.

The ODM leader said he would go to Kibra before proceeding to the Kenyatta family-owned Northlands Farm on the Eastern Bypass to assess the damage caused by Monday’s invasion.
