Raila accuses Ruto of a smear campaign against Kinoti as he revisits Jacob Juma murder
Raila accuses Ruto of a smear campaign against former DCI boss George Kinoti as he revisits Jacob Juma murder.
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has slammed President William Ruto’s administration over an ongoing probe into extrajudicial killings terming it a witch hunt against former DCI boss Geroge Kinoti.
ODM leader Raila Odinga claimed during a press conference in Nairobi that investigations into extrajudicial killings in the country have devolved into a witch hunt against former DCI director George Kinoti and a few police personnel.
He said that the president had abused his power by purportedly targeting particular people and police officers.
“As a party, we believe in the sanctity of life of every Kenyan. We believe in the rule of law. We believe in due process. We are opposed to extrajudicial executions in our country because our supporters have been the greatest victims over the years. We believe that all, not some, cases of real or suspected extrajudicial executions need to be investigated and those responsible be punished.
“We are however firmly opposed to the current trend, directed by a vindictive regime and president that seems to be pursuing a personal vendetta against specific current and past State officers in the pretext of pursuing extra-judicial executions.
Mr Odinga also claimed: “William Ruto’s grudge against George Kinoti and the DCI started way before elections. Ruto appears to believe that the coming of the UDA regime is a perfect mandate for him to punish the officers he long had a grudge against. We are here to say no.”
Further, Raila also called on the Ruto government to invite foreign detectives such as the Scotland Yard to probe unresolved murders of prominent Kenyans including Chris Musando and Jacob Juma.
Raila’s statement was in reference ongoing investigations into the disappearance of two Indians who were part of Ruto’s campaign team.
The duo- Mohamed Zaid and Zulfiqar Ahmed- disappeared weeks before the August 9 polls.
Investigations on the same have also seen nine officers attached to the disbanded special service unit arrested over the same.
