Ruto invited Tanzania President Samia Suluhu to mediate talks between Azimio and the government according to Raila.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has finally made his first appearance after missing last week’s anti-government protests.

Speaking to the international press on Tuesday, July 25, on the crisis facing Kenya in Nairobi, Raila claimed that Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu was frustrated in her efforts to mediate between him and Kenya’s head of state, William Ruto.

Raila claimed that Ruto invited Suluhu to Kenya to aid the conflicting parties in agreeing to a truce.

However, she was kept at bay for a few days by the current administration, forcing her to return to Tanzania.

“She attempted to mediate but she was kept waiting for days by the other side. Our side was ready and available for talks but the State refused to respond,” Raila told journalists.

However, Raila said, was open to meeting Suluhu and other peace envoys.

The Azimio leader added that Ruto had treated his Tanzanian counterpart with contempt, something that may grossly affect the relationship between the two nations.

“It is Kenya Kwanza that is frustrating any efforts to bring sanity to the country. We are not interested in being a part of the problems in government, we don’t want to eat their bread, all we want is for Kenyans get to put food on the table,” Raila stated.

This comes after claims of Pres Samia Suluhu being sighted last week at Maasai Mara National Reserve, where she allegedly met a number of high-ranking politicians from the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

In addition, Raila said that the government has been constantly blaming retired President Uhuru Kenyatta yet they have borrowed more than he did.

He said the economy is in a bad state not because of the demonstrations but the bad policies by the government.

“You are blaming Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime for the state of the country yet he left the government last year in September,” he said.

“We are now in July and you have run this government for the last 10 months. We expected to see some change within that period of time.”
