Raila confirms Ruto’s call as he says the DP is a beneficiary of electoral fraud

Raila confirms Ruto’s call ahead of the declaration of the presidential results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has opened up about the phone conversation he had with Deputy President William Ruto before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) big announcement.

On August 15, shortly after IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced Ruto the winner of the presidential race, Ruto hinted that he had spoken with Raila about the way forward after the polls.

He asserted that they decided to talk notwithstanding the outcome of the presidential election.

“This morning, I called my competitor, Hon Raila Odinga, and I had a discussion with him, and we agreed that whatever the outcome of this election, we should have a conversation,” Ruto disclosed.

Speaking on Monday, 30, August in an interview wi international media, Raila confirmed Ruto’s call.

Raila admitted that Ruto indeed phoned him to check on him and that they agreed to meet and have a conversation after the presidential election results.

“He called me before the results were announced and just greeted me,, and we said to ourselves at that time, because we didn’t know what was going to come out, that we would meet and talk,” he said in an interview on BBC’s Focus on Africa on Monday, August 30.

Despite agreeing to have a conversation after the declaration by Chebukati, he stated that the meeting never occurred.

“We’ve not met, neither have we talked since that time because I don’t believe that he is the president-elect. I think that I should be the president-elect. And he knows it, deep in his heart that he did not win these elections, but a beneficiary of electoral fraud,” he said.

Meanwhile, Raila has challenged William Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court which is to start hearing on 31, August and deliver its verdict on 5, September 2022.

Raila and Karua argued that the commission failed to adhere to electoral laws when conducting the 2022 General Election.
