Raila doesn't need sponsor, people just come when he calls, Azimio MP to Ruto

Azimio MP Beatrice Elachi refutes Ruto's claims that Raila is being sponsored to lead anti-government protests

Azimio MP Beatrice Elachi refutes Ruto’s claims that Raila is being sponsored to lead anti-government protests.

Beatrice Elachi, a member of parliament for Dagoretti North, has defended Azimio leader Raila Odinga from accusations that he is being sponsored to stir up chaos in the country.

Speaking on Friday, Elachi said that Raila has consistently advocated for effective demonstrations and has no need for sponsorship.

The Azimio MP claimed that Raila called for demonstrations  even when retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was in charge of the country.

Elachi said it is the love people have for the former Prime Minister that makes them come out in large numbers, whenever he calls on them.

She claimed that Kenyans also come to Raila when they are dissatisfied with the administration.

“Today is not the first day the Prime Minister is doing maandamano, no. Even when Uhuru Kenyatta was president he came out and that is how he got the handshake,” Elachi said.

“You can’t say today that someone else is sponsoring him, you don’t need to sponsor Baba (Raila). Nobody gives him, people just come when he calls. People just believe in him when they are frustrated.”

The Dagoretti North MP was responding to claims Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza that the protests by the opposition were being sponsored by Uhuru.

The United Democratic Alliance allied MPs says that Uhuru has never accepted that Ruto won the August 2022 presidential elections.

On Thursday, July 13, President William Ruto accused the former president Uhuru Kenyatta of using money he stole from the government to finance the ongoing anti-government protests.

For the first time, Ruto has connected the former president to anti-government protest, to a string of recent demonstrations, including the one on Wednesday, July 12.

“The Handshake brothers are using the money they stole to buy youths to cause chaos and deaths because they don’t want Kenya to progress,” Ruto stated.
