Raila issues an order to Gov Sakaja after Toi market fire

Raila Odinga orders Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to build a perimeter wall around the Toi Market in Kibera following the Saturday fire
Raila Odinga orders Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to build a perimeter wall around the Toi Market in Kibera following the Saturday fire.
Speaking on Monday, August 5 after visiting the victims of the Toi Market fire, Raila said the construction of the perimeter wall should start immediately.
The ODM leader noted that the Nairobi County Government has allocated Sh 100 million for the construction of Toi Market in the current financial year.
“I have issued an order to the governor that the construction of this fence surrounding the market should begin immediately. This is because they have one hundred million shillings in their budget this year to start building this market. We are saying they should begin by constructing the fence,” said Raila.
The former Prime Minister claimed that some individuals targeting to grab the Toi Market land are behind numerous fire incidents in the busy market.
“I want to give a warning that these people will not take this land no matter what they do. They want to take this land so they can divide it and build their houses,” Raila added.

The Toi market fire incident on Saturday left four people including a child burnt beyond recognition. The four victims were attempting to save their property in the market when they were overpowered by the inferno.
The blaze started at one section of the Kibera-based market before spreading through to other stalls.
On Saturday Governor Sakaja was pelted with stones after he visited the market to assess the situation following the inferno.
His team security guards were forced to take cover on his behalf, escorting him to safety from the area.
