Once conferred, Eldoret will become the fifth city in the country after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.

Nakuru was granted city status in 2021 under the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Governor Bii noted that the journey to elevate Eldoret town to city status started long ago and went through the necessary legal steps with the municipality meeting all the requirements.

“My administration has been working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of this historic event is executed flawlessly, including engagements with other stakeholders and the business community through the MSME Expo,” Bii added.
