Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife Mama Ida Odinga on Wednesday hosted the family of former Tanzania President John Magufuli

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife Mama Ida Odinga on Wednesday hosted the family of former Tanzania President John Magufuli.

In a statement on her Facebook account, Mama Ida said they hosted former Tanzania First Lady Mama Janet Magufuli and her two children. 

“It was quite an honour to have hosted former Tanzania First Lady, Janet Magufuli alongside her son Anwar and beautiful Daughter Jessica Magufuli,” she wrote.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was present during the meeting.

Mama Ida described their visit as “gracing our home with the warmth of friendship and family”.

Tanzania’s Covid-skeptic President John Pombe Magufuli who died in 2021 aged 61 was a long-time ally of Kenya’s Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Raila, a close friend of Magufuli’s, revealed that the late Tanzanian president had refused to heed advice from other regional leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame to abandon his unconventional policies on the disease.
