Raila ditches high-end guzzlers as he boards matatu to work after asking Kenyans to carpool or use PSV.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Monday boarded a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) heading to work.

The Azimio leader was accompanied by his wife, Ida Odinga.

The former Prime Minister walked from his home to a bus stop, where he engaged Kenyans, bought newspapers, and then boarded a Matatu.

“Embracing the convenience and camaraderie of public transport heading to work this morning,” Raila captioned a video on his social media.

His move comes a few days after he asked Kenyans to carpool, walk or use public service vehicles to work, over the high cost of living.

“Let us deny Ruto the fuel tax by limiting consumption of petrol and diesel. One way to do this is to carpool. Let us arrange to make regular journeys in a single vehicle whenever possible; give each other a ride, cut down on non-essential travel and walk instead of driving whenever possible,” Odinga said.

Inside the matatu plying the Ngong-Nairobi route, the tout sought the audience of Raila, decrying the high cost of fuel.

Other passengers told him about the high cost of living, saying the country is not heading to the right direction.

The Azimio leader seems to be heeding to his directive on June 27, where he asked Kenyans to take up measures such as carpooling in order to prevent the government from collecting more money from the increased VAT on fuel products.

Rail also requested employers to allow their workers time to walk to work.

Further, Raila appealed to businesses to disable or avoid using Electronic Tax Registers, make nil returns on VAT, and instead give discounts to customers.
