Raila promises to take Gachagua to ICC over alleged assassination attempt as he resumes public barazas

Raila promises to take Gachagua to ICC over alleged assassination attempt as he resumes public barazas.

In the wake of an alleged assassination attempt, Azimio leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will take Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the ICC.

Raila in a speech on Sunday during the Azimio event at the Kamkunji grounds said that Gachagua deployed police officers who, according to him, fired eleven bullets at his car during massive demonstrations on March 27 and 30.

“Gachagua is an accused person, this coming week, we are taking his name to ICC, he said that he wanted to finish me once and for all,” Raila said.

Raila said that the civilian officers first lobbed teargas at his car during protests, and when he ducked to avoid being hit, bullets were fired.

“We are taking Gachagua to the Hague, with all the other officers, we have all their names, the officers are being used by the State,” Raila stated.

Meanwhile, Azimio has already written to International Criminal Court asking the court to open investigations into the political situation in Kenya.

In a letter to the Dutch-based Court, Lawyer Paul Mwangi cited nine issues including targeted attacks on protesters.

In addition, speaking during the Kamukunji rally, Raila announced the return of public barazas since calling off mass protests countrywide.

“As the negotiators take up their responsibilities, we will embark on a series of direct engagements with members of the public through town hall meetings and public barazas,” the coalition said in a statement on Tuesday, April 11.

“The purpose of the town hall meetings and public barazas is to enable the party to explain to the people where we are and the upcoming course of action following the suspension of protests,” it added.
