Raila rates President William Ruto’s government in his first 100 days in power, gives him 4/10 rating.

In a statement released on December 22, 2022, Azimio leader Raila Odinga criticized the UDA administration for failing to achieve its objectives in the first 100 days of being in office.

Odinga gave Ruto’s administration a four out of 10 rating in the statement, which was supported by a comprehensive 19-page assessment.

“During the run-up to the August elections, it was agreed that the incoming administration’s top priority would be restoring the economy to health and lowering the cost of living for Kenyans,” the statement said.

“However, in these first 100 days of the UDA administration, these issues have hardly received the attention that Kenyans had expected,” Odinga added in the statement.

The statement continued by claiming that in the first 100 days of the UDA administration, there had been no signs of improvement in the economy or the cost of living.

Raila notably criticized the discontinuation of the Linda Mama program, which provided maternity assistance to women who were economically underprivileged, as well as the reduction of subsidies for gasoline, fuel, electricity, paraffin, and school fees.

“The government has effectively pulled the life support from the mouths of millions of Kenyans and left them on their own,” the statement said.

The UDA regime, according to Odinga, lacks a clear strategy or economic blueprint and has no interest in bringing down the price of necessities, generating jobs, raising production, or rescuing people from poverty.

Instead, Odinga added, the regime has eliminated everything Kenya had been providing for its most vulnerable.

The statement criticized the UDA regime for violating Chapter Six on Leadership and Integrity and the Constitution, in addition to economic concerns.

Odinga’s statement claimed that the government resembled a haven for gangsters or a crime scene, with everyone under suspicion of violating the government’s principles of integrity.

The statement also expressed concern over the personnel choices of the UDA regime, saying that “personnel mistakes point to a troubled regime.”

Additionally, Odinga brought attention to the lack of ethnic and regional diversity in public appointments, with more than half of the Cabinet hailing from just two of the nation’s 45 communities.

The UDA administration was accused of breaching its promise to have 50% female representation in cabinet seats in the announcement.

The UDA government’s general demeanor and level of civility were condemned in the statement, which said that the dictatorship had brought the political hostility from the campaigns into government in word and deed—and they seemed to relish it.

“These have been 100 days on the road to nowhere,” the statement concluded. “Kenyans are worse off than they were during the campaigns when UDA promises flowed.”
