President William Ruto secures Raila Odinga’s one more AU-Chairmanship vote in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe has agreed to back Raila Odinga in his attempt to become the chairman of the African Union Commission, according to President William Ruto.

Kenya has declared its intention to run for the 2025–2028 AUC Chairperson position.

This follows the African Union Executive Council’s unanimous decision on March 15, 2024, to request that candidates for the post come from the Eastern Africa area.

According to President Ruto, Kenya’s candidacy is influenced by its contribution to furthering the Pan-African Agenda.

“I am assured that Kenya and Zimbabwe will persist in conferring and backing each other on a multitude of issues of bilateral, regional and continental significance alongside the African Union Agenda 2063,” said President Ruto.

During bilateral talks with his counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday, President Ruto delivered the following remarks at the Bulawayo State House in Zimbabwe.

Nine Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering a variety of topics, including commerce, investments, infrastructure, health, education, and defense, were signed by Kenya and Zimbabwe at their bilateral meeting.

Investors must take advantage of the opportunities that are currently there in the two countries, according to President Mnangagwa.

For the benefit of their respective populations, Kenya and Zimbabwe will take advantage of their deep historical, sociocultural, political, and economic connections as well as their plentiful natural resources.

According to President Ruto, the two nations have a profound understanding that has supported our reciprocal assistance throughout the years in a variety of contexts.

“Based on this, I wish to declare Kenya’s unreserved support for Zimbabwe’s readmission to the Commonwealth, and for the African Union’s call for the immediate lifting of all illegal sanctions against the Republic of Zimbabwe,” said President Ruto.
