Raila responds to the clergy on call to suspend demonstrations

Raila has responded to a section of the clergy who have been urging him to suspend the planned demonstrations

Raila has responded to a section of the clergy who have been urging him to suspend the planned demonstrations.

Addressing journalists on Thursday at his private office in Capitol Hill, Raila said the Azimio team is only looking for the truth, and want their demands met.

“Our answer to the clergy is in the gospel, I want to quote John 8:32 – Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” he said.

Raila insisted that they will continue with the demonstrations because they want the IEBC servers to be open, the cost of living to be lowered, and the introduction of subsidies on fuel, electricity, education, and food to lower the price of commodities in the country.

“The server should be opened for a forensics audit,” he insisted.

Raila’s response comes after Muslim leaders urged the Azimio leader to suspend the protests as Ramadhan begins.

The leaders said Raila should respect the holy month of Ramadhan.

“We are urging organizers of the demonstrations to respect Muslims as it’s their month of prayers.”

Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims chairman Coast region Muhdhar Khatarmy Sharif said the planned demos will disrupt the peace that is already in the country and affect the economy further.

“We’ll treat plain-clothed officers deployed in our protests as goons,” Azimio corners police IG

“The solution must be found to fix this situation, instead of hurting people during the process,” the leaders stated.

The Kenya conference of catholic bishops (KCCB) have also called on government to avoid chest-thumping, and engage the opposition on talks.

The bishops led by their chairperson Martin Kivuva said the blame games by two factions of leaders cannot help solve the myriad of problems facing Kenyans but only serve to worsen it.

“There cannot be a good reason to resort to the standoff and defiance of our leaders to the detriment of Kenyans,” Kivuva said.

The clergy emphasized that they are ready to assist in mediating to ensure that a consensus is reached.
