Raila Odinga appears to have stepped up pressure on Ruto's government after announcing plans to hold national prayers outside IEBC offices

Raila Odinga appears to have stepped up pressure on Ruto’s government after announcing plans to hold national prayers outside IEBC offices.

In order to support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), former prime minister Raila Odinga has announced preparations to hold national prayers.

The Azimio leader announced after meeting with Azimio senators on Wednesday, February 15 that the prayers will take place in front of the IEBC’s main headquarters at Anniversary towers, along University Way.

The Azimio leader stated that the prayers would be held next week, however, he did not indicate the exact date.

He added that the prayers would go hand in hand with their nationwide rallies.

The first round of prayers will take place after the planned rallies in Kisii and Kisumu on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Raila explained that the prayers were aimed at calling for divine intervention for the Commission which he stated was crucial in upholding the people’s will.

“This week, we shall be in Kisii on Friday, February 17, and go to Kisumu on Saturday, February 18. We will also be doing a prayer.

“A prayer for the IEBC so that we get an IEBC that will defend the rights of our people and that prayer will be done in front of the IEBC premises sometime next week,” he announced.

The ODM boss maintained that he won the election insisting that they would not let go of their election victory.

“Do we wish to put these things under the carpet? Somebody got 5.9 million votes and the other got 8.1 million votes. Those are the facts and they cannot be swept under the carpet.

‘We must defend electoral justice in our country and what we have told our members of Parliament to do. This is a right nobody can take away from us,” he stated.
