Raila warns Kenya Kwanza he'll announce the date for resumption demonstrations after Ramadhan

Raila warns Kenya Kwanza he’ll announce the date for resumption demonstrations after Ramadhan.

Azimio leader, Raila Odinga, on Thursday, April 13, stated that he would announce the date for the resumption of demonstrations immediately after the Ramadhan festivity.

While addressing his supporters at Ufangamano House, Raila, warned that Azimio had not yet agreed to be part of the negotiations, arguing that the government would not bulldoze them.

“Do we agree that mass action and negotiations should go hand in hand?” Raila asked the Ufungamano crowd.

“Immediately after the Ramadhan, I will announce when the countrywide mass actions will return,” Raila assured, adding that the negotiations will go hand in hand with the protests.

Raila made the remarks after he was pressured by the coalition members to resume countrywide mass action due to a lack of seriousness by President William Ruto.

While addressing multi-sectoral groups at Ufungamano, Nairobi, Suba Churchill, a member of the civil society, wanted the mass action to resume immediately after the Ramadhan festivity.

“The people observed worrying signs of lack of seriousness from the Kenya Kwanzaregime to an honest, inclusive and credible process of national dialogue and have called on the Azimio leadership to immediately resume maandamano immediately after the end of Ramadhan,” Churchill stated while reading the Draft Resolutions of the Consultative Forum held at Ufungamano House.

Azimio also underlined that bipartisan talks (National Dialogue) will be held expeditiously, without undue delays, and completed within thirty days.

This comes after earlier on the Azimio coalition accused their counterparts on the government side, Kenya Kwanza of being insincere about the bipartisan talks.

The statement, which was issued by Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo, claimed that the Kenya Kwanza team was not serious about the peace talks.

“We urge our counterparts to accept the text and spirit of the constitution of public participation consultation and inclusivity in such processes,” Otiende stated.

“We reiterate the commitment of the coalition and this team to an honest, open and genuine dialogue that will result in meaningful change in the lives of the people of Kenya,” Otiende stated.
