Raila’s message to President William Ruto over the Nyanza trip as delivered by Siaya Governor James Orengo.

Former Prime Minister and Azimio leader Raila Odinga tasked Siaya Governor James Orengo with welcoming President William Ruto to his home turf.

On Saturday, January 14, Orengo said that he spoke with the ODM leader an hour before Ruto arrived at the event during his official visit to Siaya County.

He made it clear that Raila wanted his bitter rival during the August 9 elections in 2022 to feel at home.

“I spoke to Raila an hour ago and he said that I should pass to you (Ruto) his word of welcome and that you should feel at home,” he stated.

Additionally, he pleaded with the Head of State to meet with the former premier, stressing the significance of the conversation for the country.

Orengo claimed that the move will help Kenyans come together after the election.

He did admit, though, that it was not necessary to shake hands as it was done under the previous administration.

“I ask you in the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness, not in the spirit of the handshake, to seek your brother Raila and sit together. The elections are over. For the good of Kenya, come together,” Orengo advised.

The Head of State committed to see that Nyanza was developed in line with other regions of the nation, and the Governor praised Ruto for his pledges of economic development in the region.

Rigathi Gachagua, the deputy president, expressed his appreciation for the welcoming atmosphere the Kenya Kwanza team had experienced in Raila’s backyard.

He reaffirmed that the administration was open to everyone and said that future appointments will take the region into account.

“I know that the President is very happy with the way you have welcomed us and all those requests to have more appointments have been heard,” he stated.

Raila was not present at the event as he had traveled to South Africa on official duty.
