Martha Karua, Raila's running mate didn't enjoy state resources during campaigns as alleged according to revelations by Boniface Mwangi

Martha Karua, Raila’s running mate didn’t enjoy state resources during campaigns as alleged according to revelations by Boniface Mwangi.

On Sunday, June 18, activist Boniface Mwangi revealed that Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc-Kenya party, did not use state resources during campaigning as claimed.

As she ran for office alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Boniface Mwangi refuted the rumor that the government funded the Azimio La Umoja co-principal.

Karua and Odinga were allied to President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, who was accused of using state resources to support the duo.

Mr. Mwangi clarified that Martha Karua, Raila’s running mate, did not enjoy privileges not stipulated under the Constitution.

Karua, he added, sometimes used taxis to move about as she faced a shortage of vehicles.

The activist was, however, not privy to whether Karua was offered any state resources by Uhuru’s administration which rallied behind Raila in his fifth stab at the presidency.

“Martha Karua did not accept anything. I am not sure if she was offered. What I am sure is that there was zero state money to Karua’s candidature,” he explained.

“I do not know about Raila. I can only speak for the person I worked for,” Mwangi, who was part of Karua’s campaign team, added.

Karua, according to Mwangi, however, enjoyed security which was granted to all presidential candidates and their running mates.

“The security is a given. If you run for the presidency, you are provided with state security,” he detailed while playing cagey with more details.

“It’s not my story to tell, but one day the truth will come out. Martha should write her book,” Mwangi added in a post on his social media pages.

Karua, joined Raila’s camp to bolster his hopes for the presidency. The Narc-Kenya party leader faced stiff competition from Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka for the running mate position.

According to Kalonzo, Raila settled on Karua to consolidate the support of women across the country. With tensions simmering in Raila’s camp, Kalonzo retreated and contemplated launching his presidential race.

However, Uhuru convinced him to shelve his ambition and present a united front.
