Revealed! Ruto's initial reaction to the Northlands raid which was planned without his knowledge

Ruto was reportedly disturbed by the Kenyatta family's Northlands raid which was planned by senior government officials without his knowledge

Ruto was reportedly disturbed by the Kenyatta family’s Northlands raid which was planned by senior government officials without his knowledge.

According to insiders who revealed the details on Tuesday, April 11, President William Ruto was reportedly troubled by the raid on the Northlands City property of the Kenyatta family in Ruiru.

Even though he was abroad on an official tour to Europe, the Head of State was reportedly unhappy and worried by the developments.

He was further troubled by the possibility of the violent raid by a criminal gang on a farm that was apparently planned and executed by senior figures in his government acting in concert with the police command without his knowledge.

According to sources, this episode prompted him to negotiate a ceasefire with his rival, former prime minister Raila Odinga, whose demonstrations were blamed for the deaths and property destruction.

Speaking on the Northlands City raid, while in Germany, Ruto declined to touch on the incident directly but directed the Inspector General to act independently without coercion.

“Kenya is a country of rule of law and has responsible citizens. As President, I will ensure that no one’s property is destroyed or life lost. That is what makes us equal. Nobody should trample on the rights of others,” the Head of State remarked after being asked whether the peaceful protests had turned violent.

Meanwhile, Ruto’s allies also revealed that the President was the first to contact Raila by sending emissaries to broker a deal.

Prior to the State House news conference, President William Ruto sent an emissary to the camp of opposition leader Raila Odinga with a substantial concession indicating a desire to speak and suggesting a bipartisan initiative in Parliament to assist put an end to opposition rallies.

Senior sources from both the Raila and Ruto camps, who all asked to remain anonymous due to confidentiality agreements, reaffirmed that despite not meeting in person or even speaking on the phone, the two leaders had engaged in extensive communication over the previous two days through dependable intermediaries.

The governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, China, and Japan also put tremendous pressure on them to declare a cease-fire and put an end to the increasingly violent clashes between opposition protestors and police.

At the April 4 Azimio media briefing, Raila also refuted that he met with Ruto in Masai Mara – a report confirmed by government insiders who spoke to Nation.

“The request came from the other side, and our people responded and gave conditions. There have been allegations that I met Mr Ruto in the Mara; nothing can be further from the truth.

“There has been no meeting between Ruto and me,” he stated.

Raila responded to comments by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed that Raila was the first to reach out to them.

“These people reached out to our President. They said they had reached a dead-end and they wanted an exit strategy. The President said fine and he gave them the nod to go and discuss their issues in Parliament,” Gachagua claimed then.

Kenyatta family farm in Ruiru was raided on March 27 with goons stealing 1400 sheep and cutting down an unknown number of trees.

Following the raid, senior Kenya Kwanza officials were accused of taking part in the planning – claims later denied by those targetted by critics, including the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah.

“If anyone suspects that I had a role to play in the Northlands invasion, then I am open to investigation. The police can access my phone to establish whom I spoke to if I did any mobilization or which place I visited on or before Monday 27,” he stated.
