Revealed: Why Raila is keeping details of Azimio rallies secret

Raila Odinga has not shared full details of the Azimio rallies instead they have remained closely guarded

Raila Odinga has not shared full details of the Azimio rallies instead they have remained closely guarded.

According to reports, the Azimio leader has kept the diary of his political rallies closely guarded to keep the State off the track.

The opposition leader has not shared full details of the rallies he will be holding in the coming weeks with all his allies, keeping only trusted ones in the know.

Raila is said to be building momentum for a June 1 mega rally in Nairobi.

His allies confirmed to local media that he will hold major rallies across big towns ahead of a parallel Madaraka Day celebration.

“The idea is to have a maximum political impact on the day Ruto will be leading the Makaraka Day Celebrations,” said a senior Azimio la Umoja politician.

“Those who think this is a joke will be in for a rude shock, we are headed for a revolution in the coming months.”

On June 1, Ruto will be leading national celebrations at the Njukiri Stadium in Embu county, continuing with his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta’s rotational calendar for national fetes.

Makaraka MP George Aladwa, a key Raila ally, on Thursday refused to admit whether Raila will hold a parallel Madaraka Day fete but confirmed that more rallies are lined up.

“I cannot confirm that but all I can tell you is that we will proceed with the rallies as Baba announced when we were at Jacaranda on Sunday,” he said.

Asked if the opposition had settled on the actual dates for the rallies, Aladwa said “that is only known to Baba”.

“It is about Baba’s diary, his people plan based on his diary, so we will be told,” he said.

“There is a likelihood that we will hold two rallies every month so that by June 1 we will have covered enough regions to climax in Nairobi,” said an Azimio insider.

During his rally at Jacaranda grounds last Sunday, Raila said the Azimio rallies will move to Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisii, Kisumu, and Mombasa to pile pressure on Ruto.
