Russia fires warning to USA over sophisticated Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.
Russia’s foreign ministry warned the United States on Thursday if it sends sophisticated Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.
Moscow said it would consider it as a “provocative move” that could prompt a response from the Kremlin.
According to ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the United States’ use of Patriot missiles to counter Russian airstrikes would increase its assistance to the Kyiv administration in containing Russia’s 10-month war and “may involve possible consequences.”
She did not spell out what Moscow’s response might be but said the United States should “draw the right conclusions” from Russia’s warnings that equipment supplied by the U.S. is a legitimate target for Russian attacks. With its arms shipments to Ukraine, she said the U.S. already had “effectively become a party” to the war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has long claimed that Ukraine needs the Patriot missile system to defend itself against an onslaught of Russian airstrikes targeting critical infrastructure, such as power and water facilities. This week, the U.S. confirmed to reporters that an agreement had been reached to send the Patriot missile system to Ukraine.
Although officials from the White House and Pentagon have frequently stated that supplying more air defenses to Ukraine is a top priority, they have resisted sending the Patriot missiles until this week.
However, U.S. officials judged that the deployment of the air defense missiles was required due to the ongoing assault of Ukraine’s infrastructure.
The extra teaching will take place at the Grafenwoehr training facility in Germany, according to U.S. officials who also announced Thursday that they will increase military combat training for Ukrainian forces throughout the winter.
About 3,100 Ukrainian soldiers have already received training from the US on how to operate and maintain a variety of weapons and other equipment, such as howitzers, armored vehicles, and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS.
U.S. senior military leaders for months have discussed expanding such training, citing the need to improve the ability of Ukraine’s company- and battalion-sized units to move and coordinate attacks against Russian forces.
