Ruth Odinga warns ODM dissenters opposing party position
Raila Odinga’s younger sister Ruth Odinga has sent caution to the renegades in the ODM party.
Speaking during the funeral of the late Raila, Ruth noted that her elder brother left the party with the direction to take long before his death.
Ruth, who is the Kisumu County womab representative, revealed that she was sent to pass a message to the ODM membership.
She said it was Raila’s wish that the party remains one and strong to forge alliances with other like-minded outfits.
“He told me the day before he passed on that ODM must be united and it must be strong. We cannot be having groups within the party. We can’t have another group who thinks it owns the party, and another one wanting to take over Some of you want to take the party you don’t know where it started. The party belongs to all of us,” she said.
The ODM party is currently under the stewardship of Siaya senator Oburu Oginga.
The party leadership settled on him owing to his experience and influence he wielded right behind Raila.
He will hold the position on an interim basis until the substantive leader is elected.

Meanwhile, even with Raila’s presence, the party was divided on the position of partnership with President William Ruto’s government.
Raila led the party into a working pact with the ruling UDA party in March this year.
The partnership tore the party apart, with wings emerging opposing or supporting the arrangement.
The interim party leader is known to be in support of the broad-based government.
With his position, it is likely he would lead the party in working with the government.
The renegades are led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, who is also the party’s secretary general.
As Raila insisted on the ODM partnership with the government, Sifuna and his team spoke strongly against the partnership.
They argued that the president had ran down the country and hence working with him would be betraying the citizenry.
Eyes are now on the rival wings on how they will brave their differences to forge a united party.
