Ruto appoints Gen Francis Ogolla Chief of Defence Forces to succeed Gen Robert Kibochi who retires after 44 years

Ruto appoints Gen Francis Ogolla Chief of Defence Forces to succeed Gen Robert Kibochi who retires after 44 years. 

President William Ruto on Friday, April 28, promoted Lieutenant General Francis Omondi Ogolla to serve as the Chief of the Defence Forces.

Ogolla takes over the position from Robert Kibochi who retires after 44 years.

“His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, pursuant to Section 9 (2). (a) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act, has today promoted Lieutenant General Francis Omondi Ogolla to the rank of General and appointed him Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF).

Prior to this appointment, General Francis Omondi Ogolla was the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.

Gen Ogolla is a graduate of ÉcoleMilitaire de Paris and the National Defence College of Kenya.

He holds a Diploma both in International Studies and Military Science from Egerton University, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Armed Conflict and Peace Studies (First Class Honors), and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi.

He rose through the ranks to become a Major General and was appointed the Commander of Kenya Air Force on July 15, 2018, a post he has served for three years.

The President has also appointed Lt Genn Jonah Mwangi as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF).

Prior to this appointment, Lieutenant General Mwangi was the Vice Chancellor of, the National Defence University – Kenya.

Major General Said Farah takes over from Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi as Vice Chancellor, National Defence University – Kenya.

Further, on the advice of the Defence Council, chaired, by Cabinet Secretary for Defence Adan Duale which met today, the President upheld the Defence Council’s recommendations and made various promotions, postings, and appointments of KDF.
