Ruto awards IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati and other two commissioners during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
President William Ruto honored the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati, and two commissioners, Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye, with Presidential awards on Monday, December 12.
Following the Jamhuri Day celebrations, Ruto bestowed the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) award on Chebukati, one of 13 people in the category.
Guliye and Molu, two other IEBC commissioners, were awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in the second class category, along with 35 other Kenyans.
“In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, confer Awards and Honours to the following persons,” the special gazette notice dated Monday, December 12 read in part.
Chebukati, Molu, and Guliye were honored ahead of their term ends in January 2023.

The beleaguered three IEBC officials are expected to step down when their six-year terms expire, paving the way for the appointment of new commissioners.
Ruto also conferred the Third Class Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear on IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein (MBS).
However, Ruto did not recognize four IEBC commissioners who contested the August 9 Presidential election results. Irene Masit, who remains in office, as well as Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyangaya, and Francis Wanderi, who resigned, were dropped from the list.
Following the formation of a tribunal led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule, the four will be investigated independently.
Ruto also acknowledged a few Azimio la Umoja legislators. Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader, was among them and was awarded the Third Class: Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH).
Kitui governor, Julius Malombe, received the Second Class: Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).
