Ruto calls out Uhuru on refusal to appoint the six judges
Ruto calls out Uhuru on refusal to appoint the six out of forty judges recommended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Deputy President William Ruto has termed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision not to appoint the six as anchored on personal reasons.
While speaking at Karen on 21, June in a meeting with the Civil Society, Ruto called out at President Uhuru Kenyatta as he vowed to appoint the six judges he refused to appoint.
Ruto termed the move unjustified and blatant interference of independent institutions.
“Like the six judges who haven’t been appointed. Why? I would appoint the judges on day one and give everyone the capacity to serve,” Ruto stated.
“We must stop the fight with the Judiciary. I have said that it doesn’t matter who is nominated by Judicial Service Commission. They don’t have to be my friend. I don’t have to like them. If they have passed the interview and they have gone through the process, they must be given chance to serve,” he added.
In the meeting, Ruto also pointed out that the fight against corruption should leave no one behind pointing out that it has been hard to fight because it has been personalized and politicized by those in power.
He claimed the institutions that deal with the fight against corruption are still under the control of someone.
“The fight against corruption hasn’t gone far because it is directed by somebody from somewhere and he/she decides who is corrupt and who should be followed,” Ruto said.
“Why haven’t we gotten the KEMSA billionaires? Because they are friends and family to those who say they want to fight corruption,” he added.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential flag bearer said his government will also operationalize the Judiciary Fund.
“The constitution says that the Judiciary Fund should have two-half percent of our budget why is the Judiciary continuing to get 0.7 percent of our budget. Why hasn’t the Judiciary Fund been operationalized? It’s because they are people who want to continue pulling strings around the Judiciary,” he said.
