President William Ruto has urged university management teams across the country to explore Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to support the development of their institutions.
Speaking on Monday, November 25, during the launch of the University of Nairobi Silicon Savannah Innovation Park at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto emphasized the need for universities to adopt innovative strategies to boost their funding.
The Head of State encouraged universities to build partnerships and consider PPPs to unlock the potential in the education sector.
“The government spends Sh650 billion every year for the education of our children. Almost 30 percent of our budget goes to education. It is the highest budget spending. We need innovative and creative ways of making sure we enlarge the pot of funding that is available for training, research, and development in all our universities.
“I want to encourage leadership and management of our universities to think outside the box and to look at what possibilities exist for us to build synergy, build partnerships, work with the private sector, and build Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) that would help unlock the potential that exists in our education sector, especially in our universities,” President Ruto remarked.

The president also expressed his gratitude to the partners who contributed to the development of the Silicon Savannah Innovation Park.
He affirmed that through partnerships, extraordinary positive impacts can be achieved.
“I take this opportunity to appreciate the generous support of our partners, especially the Government of France, whose investment has made this historic moment possible. This park is an enduring testament to the power of ambitious collaboration powered by a shared vision.
Together, we are demonstrating that partnerships founded on mutual respect can achieve extraordinary positive impact,” he stated.
Meanwhile, President Ruto assured the youth that the government is working on shaping their future by delivering opportunities for them to learn, work, and innovate.
