Energy CS Davis Chirchir makes major changes as he revokes the appointment of EPRA Board members.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir on Friday revoked the appointment of five board members of the regulator Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

In a Gazette Notice, the CS announced that George Mwakule, Moses Murengu Mutuli, Daniel Ndonye, Mercy Muthoni Wambugu, and Caroline Gathii would cease to sit on the energy regulator’s board effective immediately.

Chirchir has appointed four new members including Anthony Gachau Mbuthia, Diba Daudi, Abraham Kipruto, and Jennipher Nawoi Long’or.

“The five will be members of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from September 8, 2023,” read the notice in part.

Chirchir also made major changes to the Geothermal Development Company Limited after revoking the appointment of Hillary Koech, Nelly Yatich, Kamau Kuria, Mwendia Nyaga, and John Gicamu.

The five new board members will serve at the institution for three years.

Since taking over power, President William Ruto’s administration has been making major changes in key parastatals and State agencies, kicking out former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointees.

Critics have claimed that the current regime is filling State positions with loyalists and political operatives with no experience in running the government.
