ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has revealed details of his last conversation with Chief of Defence Forces (KDF) General Francis Ogolla before he died in a helicopter crash Thursday.
CS Owalo while sharing his condolence message said he engaged the CDF hours before the crash.
“Earlier today (Thursday), I had reached out to General Ogola at 11:15 am to discuss the approval for utilizing the Ulinzi Complex for a basketball tournament sponsored by the Eliud Owalo Foundation next month, following a formal request previously submitted,” Owalo said.
“Although he did not answer the call, he responded via text at 11:41 am, saying, ‘Waziri, I am in the North Rift; will call’.”
The CS described General Ogolla as a distinguished leader who served the country with unwavering dedication and excellence.
“It is with profound shock and deep sadness that I have learned of the passing of General Ogola in a tragic aircraft crash, ” Owalo said.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of General Ogola, as well as to the entire nation of Kenya. My sincere condolences to President William Ruto, Commander in Chief of the armed forces, and the entire armed forces.”
He said General Ogolla exhibited great humility despite his highly successful and cherished career.

The CS said the General though gentle in demeanour, possessed a resolute strength of character.
“During this time of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with General Ogola’s loved ones. May they find comfort in their cherished memories, and strength in the enduring legacy he leaves behind,” Owalo said.
General Ogolla died alongside nine other gallant soldiers after their aircraft crashed in Elgeyo-market while on official duty.
The Other nine officers who passed away include Brig Swaleh Saidi, Col Duncan Keitany, Lt Col David Sawe, Major George Benson Magondu (who was also the pilot), Capt Sorah Mohamed, Capt Hillary Litali, Senior Sergeant John Kinywa Mureithi, Sergent Cliffonce Omondi and Sergent Rose Nyawira.
