Ruto defends his choice to create the position of the official opposition as he praises Raila’s camp for holding the government accountable.
In the midst of a debate over the planned countrywide engagement fora, President William Ruto praised Azimio Chief Raila Odinga for holding his government accountable.
Speaking in Nyandarua on Sunday, December 11, Ruto praised the opposition for putting pressure on his administration to keep its promises to Kenyans.
Ruto insisted that accountability was required for taxpayers to receive value from any government.
“We are doing our best to deliver and so is the opposition. We have no qualms with them doing what they are doing as long as it is guided by patriotism,” Ruto remarked.
In addition, Ruto defended his push to create the office of the Leader of Opposition explaining that it was in the best interest of Kenyans.

“We want our oversight institutions including the opposition to be empowered so that they ensure that public resources are used appropriately.
“I believe in an administration that is held accountable because it is the only kind that will bring transformation,” he remarked.
Ruto’s directive to Kenya Kwanza members of Parliament (MPs) to introduce legislation to establish the office of the opposition was met with mixed reactions.
Ruto had on Friday, December 9, written to Members of Parliament, asking them to consider amending the Constitution to create a position for the Leader of the Opposition in the Constitution.
However, the president came under fire with a section of Kenyans accusing him of trying to subvert the rule of law.
