Edwin Sifuna accuses President William Ruto of encouraging state officials to defy court orders.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has leveled accusations against President William Ruto, alleging that Ruto established a precedent for officials disregarding court orders.
Speaking in the parliament, Sifuna argued that doctors should not be blamed for failing to adhere to court directives to end their strike.
Sifuna emphasized the importance of the president setting a positive example for the nation by demonstrating the utmost respect for court rulings.
The Nairobi Senator recounted an incident where Ruto instructed the Roads Principal Secretary to proceed with the construction of the Ihithe-Ndunyu Njeru Road, despite a court injunction against it.

“Judicial impunity must stop in Kenya. We will stop it. Now the court is saying we shouldn’t build until the judiciary gives us an okay. Just do it, Mr. PS Mbugua; allocate funds for this road so we can start work,” he said. The articulate senator questioned the authority of Cabinet Secretary for Health Susan Nakhumicha to mandate doctors to adhere to court orders. “I wanted to know from the CS, where does she get the moral authority to lecture anyone about respect for court orders? Isn’t it this government that told us that court orders do not have to be respected? I heard the president himself speaking on the Ihithe-Ndunyu Njeru Road where the environment and lands court said you cannot build a road through the Aberdares. He instructed a PS to proceed. It is the government that sets the pace for respect for court orders,” said Sifuna.
In addition, Sifuna asserted that the government should not cite the lack of funds as an excuse for not compensating the striking doctors.
He urged the government to utilize taxpayers’ money to settle the doctors’ dues, emphasizing that these funds do not belong exclusively to the president. “I want to remind the President, that the money that pays doctors is not his money. We support doctors, and we want our taxes to be used to pay doctors.”
