Ruto endorses Jalang’o’s senatorial ambitions?: “Senator wetu wa Nairobi…”
President William Ruto on Tuesday, March 3 made a significant move that political commentators and a section of Nairobians will take as the Head of State endorsing MP Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o for senator in 2027.
While on an inspection tour of the Mutuini Hospital in Dagoretti South Constituency, President Ruto welcomed Jalang’o to address the residents by referring to him as “senetor wetu wa Nairobi”.
This, definitely, comes as a public endorsement and the first-in-command rubberstamping Jalang’o’s ambitions to vie for the Nairobi Senate seat.
In an exclusive interview on Radio47 on February 2026, the Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) declared that he will not be defending his MP seat in 2027, opting to join the Nairobi senatorial race.
According to Jalang’o, he opted to vie for senate seat to perfect the oversight mandate, accusing current Senator Edwin Sifuna of neglecting his constitutional roles, to the detriment of Nairobi residents.

“Nimeona pahali kuna nafasi ambapo mtu alichaguliwa na hajafanya kazi yake. Ndiyo kwa sababu tunasema wana Nairobi wanahitaji uwakilishaji wa haki na mtu mwenye yuko pale (present),” Jalang’o said in another interview with TV47.
Jalang’o has also refuted speculations that are becoming rife on social media, branding him as a project of the government that is hell-bent in unseating Sifuna in Nairobi.
“Kama unanijua vizuri, mimi hakuna mtu amewahi kunisukuma kwa chochote. Mimi nina ndoto zangu maishani. Nataka leo nipige miaka zangu tano nzuri kama seneta, watu wa Nairobi waione kazi yangu jinsi watu wa Lang’ata wameiona, baada ya seneta mimi ntakuwa gavana baada ya gavana, mimi ndiyo rais.”
