Ruto overhauls government agency structured by Uhuru Kenyatta as he fires all its board members.
On Friday, July 21, President William Ruto dismissed five members of the Water Sector Trust Fund board.
Ruto withdrew the appointments of Mary Wambui, Mbatia Kimani, Kevin Opiyo, Musa Ndeto, and Fred Odhiambo in a notification published in the Gazette.
The five were chosen by former President Uhuru Kenyatta on July 5, 2022, just over two months before his retirement.
Consequently, President Ruto appointed Josephine Erigae, Lucas Chepkitony, Maryan Mohamed, and Andrew Mbithi to the board of trustees.
The four appointees will assume office effective July 21, 2023, for a two-year term ending July 4, 2025.
Ruto did not provide reasons for the changes other than stating that the overhaul was in line with powers vested in him in the Constitution.
Water Fund – under the Ministry of Water – is mandated to provide counties with funding for water and sanitation programmes.
The conditional and non-conditional grants target projects in marginalized areas in the country.

“We give support to communities to effectively conserve their catchment areas and manage and protect the water resources within their sub-catchments,” the agency states on its website.
In other changes across state departments, former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici was confirmed as the Kenya Seed Company Limited chairperson.
During a board meeting, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Miothika Linturi announced that Ngirici had won the election and taken over the position.
Symon Cherogony, Edwin Kipchirchir, Bernard Wambwa, and Job Kibagendi will serve on the board alongside Ngirici.
