Ruto stole the idea of the housing fund from Raila Odinga’s manifesto according to Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed that there is a close similarity between President William Ruto’s manifesto and the one ODM leader Raila Odinga had.

Murkomen said that the former prime minister had also intended to set up the Housing Fund had he won the presidential election while justifying the contentious housing levy in Homa Bay.

Murkomen made the lighthearted claim that Ruto took the idea of housing from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party’s manifesto.

Murkomen claims that the ODM leader would have also implemented a 3% levy from Kenyans’ salaries for the Housing Fund.

“There is no reason as to why we as leaders should not work together. In fact, if you look at the content of the Finance Bill, especially the Housing Fund, am sure you have watched a clip by Raila, that proposal I think Ruto picked Raila’s idea. The manifesto of ODM and UDa on housing is the same, 100% even on percentages, the only difference is that we won and the other will win another time,” Murkomen said on Monday, June 12.

At the same time, the CS called on leaders from both political divides to find common ground on the contentious proposals in the Finance Bill 2023.

“Let us close ranks together, I don’t see reasons why Ruto and Raila should not consult regularly. Ruto was a student of Raila. There must be a way of closing ranks,” he added.
