Prior to the anticipated statewide protests that are set to begin on December 7, President William Ruto has directed Interior Cabinet Protection Kithure Kindiki to provide security to Raila Odinga and his team.
On Sunday, December 4, during an interreligious service in Embu, Ruto jokingly sent CS Kindiki to Raila to get the schedule of the intended mass protest.
But he added that the security agencies will also protect Kenyans’ property in addition to the former premier.
“I have asked Kindiki to ask them for a schedule for their planned demonstrations so that we give them security officers who will protect them so that they do not destroy people’s property,” Ruto stated.
Nonetheless, the president accused the Azimio leader of attempting to economically sabotage the country, a scheme he assured would be defeated.
“These people do not want the country to grow economically because they like confining people in poverty so that they can rule over them.
“This time, you will know that you do not know (mtajua hamjui). We are determined to move the country forward and you will not hold us back,” President Ruto declared.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua echoed his comments by advising the President to resist any attempt by Odinga to compel a handshake.
“We do not want Raila to be a part of our government; he wants to instill terror so that he can force a handshake. Let him voice his protests all day long “DP gave a warning.
Gachagua theorized that such an arrangement between Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta is what has caused the nation’s economic unrest.
“The handshake was a bad experiment and the worst thing that has happened in Kenya’s 60-year history. There will be no handshake,” he added.
In addition, the second-in-command added that any truce will be between the president and the people of Kenya.
