Ruto plans to invite Uhuru Kenyatta to Madaraka Day celebrations amid plans by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga to host a parallel event.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga have convened a key meeting for all elected leaders in Nairobi on Tuesday.

This came to light even as it emerged that Azimio may have planned to organize separate Madaraka Day celebrations.

It is anticipated that all Azimio MPs would be whipped into rejecting the proposed Finance Bill, 2023 during the meeting that will take place at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation.

Uhuru and Raila will discuss a proposal by radical opposition MPs to host a separate Madaraka Day celebration on Thursday.

At Embu Stadium on the same day, President William Ruto will lead the nation in celebrating the 60th Madaraka Day.

The government is keen to railroad the law through the house, therefore during Tuesday’s meeting, plans will be made for how Azimio MPs would oppose their Kenya Kwanza colleagues.

According to reports, the opposition intends to create its own version of the Finance Bill 2023 to express its opinions on proposed tax legislation.

Wycliffe Oparanya, the chair of the Azimio Executive Council and a former governor of Kakamega, confirmed the meeting on Tuesday.

”Our meeting is on Scheduled for Tuesday this week at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation. We will inform the public of our next course of action,” he said.

Meanwhile, tt has also emerged that Kenya Kwanza is scheming to counter Raila’s Thursday parallel Madaraka Day plans with an invitation to Uhuru to attend the Embu national fete.

The government has reportedly already invited Uhuru for the event in what is seen as a plan to legitimise Kenya Kwanza and also neutralise Azimio.

But Azimio is keen to have Uhuru attend the Tuesday meeting to send a message to the government that his place in the opposition is solid despite criticism from the government.
