President Ruto directs Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to expedite the reconstitution process
President William Ruto has directed the panel tasked with recruiting nominees for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson and Commissioners to expedite the process.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon during the burial of Malava Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi, the Head of State called on the panel to speed up the process to allow Malava residents to vote for their new representative.
While calling for the immediate reconstitution of the electoral commission, Ruto pledged his support for Malava residents, maintaining that his administration would ensure seamless service delivery despite the death of their legislator.
“I want to promise that I will not abandon you, we are together in this and for the respect of the former MP Injendi, who was my friend, I will walk with you to the end,” Ruto told the residents.
“Now that I had already chosen the panel that is tasked with reconstituting the IEBC, I urge those involved to expedite the process so that we can have a new IEBC so that people of Malava can choose their MP,” he added.
President Ruto went on to emphasise his preparedness to work alongside the new MP who would soon be elected by Malava residents.
His directive comes hardly a month after he announced the appointment of a nine-member committee to oversee the reconstitution of the electoral commission.

In a gazette notice dated January 27, Ruto appointed Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams, James Misati, Nicodemus Bore, Koki Muli, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda, Caroline Kituku and Fatuma Saman as members of the task force.
Since their appointment, the panel members have advertised the vacant positions and begun the process of compiling a list of applicants for shortlisting.
Addressing Members of the National Assembly on February 18, the committee led by its chairperson Nelson Makanda assured Kenyans of the panel’s commitment to a free and fair process.
“We would like to reassure the public that the selection panel is committed to conducting a fair and transparent process. In this regard, we shall keep the public informed at all stages of the recruitment exercise,” Makanda said.
MP Injendi died on February 17 after weeks of being hospitalised at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. He died while serving his third term as a legislator in the National Assembly.
