Ruto appoints the Ex-military boss in new state appointments while revoking those made by the previous regime of Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Friday, June 30, President William Ruto appointed Brigadier (Rtd) Richard Mbithi to be the board chair of the East African Portland Cement Company Limited.

Mbithi, who will serve in the position for a period of three years from June 30, 2023, was among several other appointments made by the Head of State.

The brigadier succeeded Edwin Kinyua, whose appointment had been revoked by the President, according to a Gazette notice.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Brigadier (Rtd) Richard Mbithi to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the East African Portland Cement Company Limited,” read part of the gazette notice.

The East African Portland Cement Company Limited prides itself on its commitment to contributing to the construction of proper housing in the country.

It was established in 1933 and started as a trading company importing cement mainly from England for early construction in East Africa.

The company’s vision is to be the regional leader in the provision of cement, innovative cement products, and solutions.

Additionally, Geoffrey Rukuja (Dr.), Anthony Mwangi Githinji, and Cate Wanjirah Mbogoh were appointed as members of the Board of Directors of Tana Water Works Development Agency for a period of three years each.

The new appointees at the Tana Water Works Development Agency will serve up to July 4, 2025. Ruto, on the other hand, revoked the appointment of Joseph Gichohi, Patrick Nyoike Njehia, and Winnie Mwai at the agency.

Since ascending to power, Ruto has reshuffled boards in various departments, while revoking the appointment of others that served in the previous regime of Uhuru Kenyatta.
