Ruto calls out the Azimio coalition for organizing anti-government protests over the Finance Act 2023 and the high cost of living.

In his statement on Saturday, President William Ruto said the Azimio group now knows better than to hold demonstrations.

Ruto added that the Raila Odinga-led Azimio coalition is no longer asking for subsidies.

The President insisted that the government has no problem with the opposition and that all they ask is that they help unite and build the country.

“Sasa wameanza kuchanuka, I heard them the other day. They have stopped demonstrations they just meet, talk, and go home. That is nice, we have no problem, as long as properties are not destroyed we have no problem,” Ruto said.

He spoke at the thanksgiving ceremony of Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Azimio has been organizing protests against the high cost of living and other issues across the country.

On Tuesday, Azimio organized a protest at the Kamukunji grounds where supporters decided to launch a campaign of civil disobedience and resistance that will take various forms at various times.

The resistance, according to Raila, will involve a refusal to pay taxes in an effort to remove Ruto from the government.

On July 7, Azimio will be holding a demonstration at Kamukunji to announce widespread civil disobedience.
