Ruto team in the bipartisan talks moves to stop collapse of talks as they propose a raft of measures to the Azimio camp

Ruto team in the bipartisan talks moves to stop collapse of talks as they propose a raft of measures to the Azimio camp.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance on Sunday, May 28, devised a new strategy to bring Azimio la Umoja back to the negotiation table after the Raila-led coalition suspended the bipartisan engagements for seven days.

The ruling coalition is now proposing a raft of measures to be taken to ensure talks resume.

Kenya Kwanza suggests that the committee write to the selection panel and ask them to suspend the process for roughly 21–30 days in a letter to the Azimio bipartisan discussions chairperson Otiende Amollo from his co-chairperson George Murugara.

On preserving the IEBC’s Presidential Election Server, Kenya Kwanza contends that the IEBC’s Presidential Election Servers must be preserved until August 15, 2025, in accordance with a legally mandated Interim Measure, and that out of an abundance of caution Murugara is willing to co-author a letter to the IEBC reminding them of their legal obligation to preserve the Presidential Election Servers and the data contained therein to facilitate any requirement for inspection.

Having proposed the way forward on the two issues raised by opposition, the Kenya Kwanza Chairperson has invited Otiende for a meeting on Monday at 2pm to discuss and write the required letters so that the talks can continue.

Azimio had on Wednesday last week issued an ultimatum to the government to declare their commitment to implement the interim concerns failure to which the talks will be considered collapsed and the opposition will meet to chart a way forward.

In a statement, Sifuna noted the reconstitution of the electoral commission was a priority and there was no backing down over it.
