Ruto-Raila talks bound to collapse owing to political differences between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza leaders according to Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi

Ruto-Raila talks bound to collapse owing to political differences between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza leaders according to Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has weighed in on the scheduled talks between the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition and the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In a statement via his Twitter, Ngunyi claimed that the talks wouldn’t progress further.

He also claimed that the talks are likely to hit a dead end.

The political analyst also wondered what former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo was going to mediate.

According to Ngunyi, the conflict between Azimio Chief Raila Odinga and President William Ruto is about egos.

“I do not get it. What is Obasanjo coming to Kenya to mediate? Political egos between dynasties and the hustler nation? This is a total waste of our national imagination. These talks will collapse. No grassroots basis at all,” he wrote.]

This comes as the Azimio Coalition has agreed to nominate five members to sit in a new dialogue panel that will consist of five other members from Kenya Kwanza.

“We, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza under the facilitation of K.E Olusegun Obasanjo on the state of our nation, desirous of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation,” the statement read in part.

The Raila-led coalition also indicated that four out of the ten members fronted by both coalitions will be non-parliamentarians.

“We have therefore agreed with Kenya Kwanza to establish a committee of ten, composed of five members each from Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza,” the statement added.

However, Azimio distanced itself from a joint statement by Kenya Kwanza that called for negotiations to end the anti-government demonstrations.

“It should be noted that in our statement that was released before KK’s, Azimio is yet to table its substantive issues,” read part of the statement.

Azimio further emphasized that the main issues that prompted them to take to the streets have not featured anywhere in the Leader of Majority’s statement.
